Abu Dhabi Civil Defense teams carried out a successful drill in the Sheikh Zayed Tunnel in Abu Dhabi. The exercise, which was organized in collaboration with partners, aims to enhance preparedness of Civil Defense crews and ensure their readiness to handle any emergencies and to guarantee an efficient coordination during emergency situations.

Lt. Colonel Mohammed Abdul Jalil Al Ansari, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Civil Defense, supervised the exercise, which falls in line with the strategy of the Civil Defense General Directorate. He said: “The strategy is designed to inspect the security and safety tools and equipment, as well as the various techniques to ensure the efficiency of rescue operations, the use of optimal methods in case of potential fires inside tunnels, and to increase readiness of relevant rescue teams to handle potential emergencies and crises. This would ensure everyone’s safety and reduce potential human and material losses.”

Teams from the Civil Defense stations in Al Mina, Al Madina and Al Bateen took part in the drill. They were assisted by teams from the Ambulance Section, patrols from the Traffic and Patrols Directorate, and members of the Crisis and Disaster Management Department at the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters. The drill was held in coordination with Abu Dhabi Municipality and its specialized sections.

As per the scenario, the Operations Room received a tip-off at 1:00 am on Tuesday about an accident between a bus and a sedan, which caused five injured in the bus and three injured in the car. Police and Civil Defense crews rushed to the accident scene, along with the back-up entities in a bid to handle the situation in record time.
