ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates-Friday 1 July 2016 [ AETOS Wire ]

The Civil Defense Centers increased the preparedness and readiness of the firefighting, rescue and emergency teams to quickly respond to fire incidents and other incidents that may occur during the glorious occasion of Eid Al Fitr.

Major General Jassem Muhammad Al Marzouqui, Civil Defense General Commander-in-chief at the MoI, said that the teams are fully ready to tackle any emergency according to a set of elaborate plans, as usual; to ensure the Civil Defense provides the best services to save lives and property. Efforts are intensified, mainly during Eid days, holidays and vacations due to the increase in social movement, crowded leisure places and shopping centers.

He called upon the public to abide by the safety rules, avoid causes of fires and to follow instructions that prevent the occurrence of accidents, such as switching off electricity, closing gas cylinders before leaving the house, abstaining from barbecuing inside the houses or apartments, due to the risks of fire and suffocation from gas and toxic fumes, and ensuring the safety and serviceability of vehicles before going on long trips.

Civil Defense General Commander-in-chief urged the public to cooperate with the Civil Defense and immediately report any accidents to facilitate the dispatch of rescue and firefighting teams. Moreover, he called on to make way for Civil Defense vehicles when performing their duty and to not crowd accident scenes or park their vehicles in front of fire hydrants near big buildings and shopping centers. He asked them to check the expiry date of the fire extinguishers, not to leave children unattended in leisure parks, play centers, beaches and public places. He also urged them to keep away fire sources, stoves and generators from tent sites, control smoking inside the tents and keep the lanterns away from the canvas’ tents.

Major General Jassem Muhammad Al Marzouqui, Civil Defense General Commander-in-chief took the opportunity to extend his congratulations to the wise leadership of the UAE, citizens, residents, and guests on the occasion of Eid al Fitr, as well as to the Civil Defense team members. He wished security and safety for all, and assured that Civil Defense teams across all the Centers at the countrywide level are on standby and ready to receive reports and answer calls around-the-clock on the emergency number 999 or 997.
