ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates-Friday 1 July 2016 [ AETOS Wire ]

As part of its preparations for the advent of Eid El Fitr holidays, the MoI’s Child Protection Center called upon community members to communicate with the police to report any suspected child abuse incident through the federal toll-free (116111) hotline, which is considered a safety net in child protection. This move is part of the ministry’s keenness to facilitate reports for child abuse cases via the “Hemayati” smart phone application (which means ‘protect me’ in English). Reports may also be made via the center’s website.

Major General Dr. Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Office of HH Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior and Chairman of the Higher Committee for Child Protection at the Ministry of Interior, said: “Through this service, the Ministry seeks further cooperation with all segments of society, as this is an important step to prevent or stop any attempts to harm children. He confirmed that the Center will immediately provide advice and support and will take the necessary action in this regard.”

Major General Dr. Al Nuaimi called upon parents to make sure to provide all prevention and safety requirements around their homes and their children’s play areas, in a bid to ensure their safety from potential accidents, particularly against the dangers of fireworks, which could mar the joy of the blessed occasion.  He also urged parents to abide by the requirements of prevention and safety at the various touristic sites including parks, amusement parks, beaches, markets, malls and other locations that are expected to witness a high density of visitors during the holidays.

He added that the ministry is exerting every possible effort to provide distinguished services to the public according to the highest international standards, in order to enhance trust and increase satisfaction amongst all segments of society. He also highlighted the important role of the family in protecting children from dangers, being the nucleus of society”.

Major Dana Al Marzouqui, Acting Head of the MoI Child Protection Center, confirmed that the center has adopted confidentiality in receiving the public’s reports in general and the parents especially for any cases of abuse that children might face. She also noted that all information is encrypted in the criminal record.

Moreover, she stressed the importance of benefitting from the Eid El Fitr holidays to provide protection for the family and children and enjoy the holidays. She highlighted the importance of providing children with the necessary care and doubling efforts to protect them from dangers they might be unaware of.

Major Al Marzouqui also stressed the need for parents to remain vigilant and stay close to their children at all times, to remind them to respect others and their rights, as well as to have good manners and ethics. She stressed the importance of communicating with police stations when necessary as they are always ready to receive calls from the public to provide help and support.
