Seven-a-Side Football Tournament Kick off at MoI

Under the patronage of Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, the Seven-a-Side Football Tournament and Pistol Shooting competition for senior officers commenced on Sunday  at the shooting range at the Zayed Sports City Police Station and the Police College stadium in Abu Dhabi. The tournaments are part of the 10th sports and cultural events organised by the Police Sports Association for staff members at the different sectors and departments of the Ministry of Interior in Abu Dhabi.

 

The launch ceremony was attended by Colonel Waleed Al Shamesi, Director General of Abu Dhabi Police College; Colonel Aref Al Rayes, Head of Police Sports Association Department, as well as a number of officers and coordinators in charge of the teams participating in the sports events.

 

During the first day of the tournament, the Undersecretary at the Ministry of Interior sector Team (A) won against the Assistant Undersecretary of Resources and Support Services sector Team 5- 3; the Police College sector Team (B) won against the Naturalization, Residency and Ports sector Team 3-2; the match between the General Secretariat of the Office of the Minister’s sector and the Civil Defense sector (B) teams ended in a draw 1-1; while the Undersecretary at the Ministry of Interior sector Team (B) won against the Assistant Undersecretary of Resources and Support Services sector Team (B) 2-0.

 

Four matches will be held within the preliminaries for the Seven-a-Side Football Tournament that concludes on the 31st of January.

 

Six sectors are taking part in the sports and cultural events, notably the General Secretariat of the Office of H.H Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior; the Undersecretary at the Ministry of Interior; the Assistant Undersecretary of the Naturalization, Residency and Ports Affairs; the Assistant Undersecretary for Resources and Support Services; the General Directorate of the Civil Defense; and the Police College.

 

Colonel Waleed Al Shamesi, Director General of Abu Dhabi Police College, said that organising the tenth sporting events for staff members of the Ministry is in response to the police leadership’s directives regarding the need to dedicate attention to police sports, in order to develop and enhance it. He continued: “This underscores the fact that practicing sports is a necessity, since it contributes to improving the level of services and tasks carried out by police members to serve society. It also represents a means for acquaintance for all staff members. In order to implement these instructions and within the leadership’s keenness, the Police Sports Federation works hard to achieve its strategy and mission aimed at promoting sports among all police staff members in the state.”
